Windows 10 USB Drivers E80 #5927
Sorry to be a pain folks ... but I'm still having trouble. The USB drivers I have downloaded from the Roland website don't like windows 10 ... is there a version for windows 10 or is there a work around? I was hoping to have the E80 connected to my pc to alleviate the need for using the floppies!

Once again, thank you in advance :)

If your computer is connected to the Internet, then when you turn on the MENU - MIDI - USB button on the E-80 screen, the driver Е-80 for Windows 10 will be installed automatically
www.roland.com/ru/support/by_product/bk-...d-8c7e-a1fc8fcaa9cc/
Your computer automatically downloads the Windows(R) 10 driver from the Internet when a product requiring the driver is connected to the computer.

Hi,
Thank you for the info on windows 10 driver ... unfortunately that doesn't seem to work with my set up ... absolutely nothing happens when I follow your instructions :(

Is it not possible to just install the driver from an exe.file?

If the PC is started up while the Roland Arranger is still connected to the PC with its power turned on, the driver may not be loaded properly and you may not be able to use the Roland Arranger. In such cases, connect the Roland Arranger to another USB port or turn on the power of Roland Arranger after the PC starts up.
If the Roland Arranger does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the Roland Arranger, and then turn the power of the Roland Arranger off and on again.
If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the Roland Arranger is in use, or if the power of the Roland Arranger is turned off, then on again, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, after resuming, you should exit all applications that use the Roland Arranger, and turn the power of the Roland Arranger off, then on again.
If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load, such as when accessing a CD-ROM Drive or network while the Roland Arranger was being used, the Roland Arranger may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the Roland Arranger, then turn the Roland Arranger off and then on again.

To keep it more simple...

For USB Midi you need the Arranger driver, which should install automatically in Windows 10
when connected to the internet, or otherwise let Windows Update search for it.

For an USB Data Storage connection the standard built-in Windows Mass Storage drivers are used.

On an even simpler level, can't you simply get a PCMCIA adapter and an SD card, and put the styles and sequences you load in from the floppies on that? You can then make UPG's and UPS's that load instantly from the Card. I had a 1GB Card in the slot and never ran out of room!

And yes, if it's only storage and backup you need, and not sequencing, you should be able to transfer without the driver shouldn't you (Mac user, so not completely sure!)?

Diki, yes that's what I have decided to do ... I don't know one end of a sequencer from the other - it's just transfer of styles and storage. I couldn't actually find a PCMCIA adapter for my SD cards but I also have several 1gb Compact Cards from cameras so I managed to get an adapter for them :)

I would like to thank you all your help in this matter it's greatly appreciated ...

I'm having a great deal of fun with the E80 more so than I ever did with the Tyros keyboards I've had ... although, there does seem to be far less choice of styles available these days for the Roland E80 ... would be nice to find some of my favourite Yamaha styles converted for the Roland just to add the icing on the cake ;)

All the best from the UK,

Mike

Admittedly, it may be hard to find contemporary styles for the aging E80 arranger, but the good news is Rolands vast legacy library of styles is easily tweaked for the latest drum kits and sounds using the Makeup Tools. They are far easier to use than those in the Tyros, so you may find yourself more willing to use them!

Do some googling around, I am sure you can find some Tyros to Roland conversions...

However, be warned. Yamaha styles use a lot of proprietary techniques like Mega Voices which have no Roland equivalent, making one to one translation iffy at best. Yamaha Mega sounds (maybe some others, not too up on current Yamaha parlance!) use certain low notes (which don't get affected by chord transposition) to do things like chord chokes, picking changes, and other performance noises. You may find yourself hearing quiet low notes in the translation that are wildly off key. Your only option with these is to go into the Style Composer and delete them, and perhaps alter the played notes' length, etc..

Yamaha also have a different way of altering a Parts' volume (for swells or fades, e.g.) rather than Roland's way of using CC11 Expression (Yamaha use CC7, volume) and these may need tweaking. So don't expect too much when listening to Tyros (and PSR) style conversions if you are intimately familiar to how they sound on the Tyros... You can probably tweak a useable style, but you may definitely be underwhelmed compared to the original.
