Roland RA-800 questions #196
After 20 years the internal battery has died (RIP). Does anyone know which battery this is, and perhaps how to remove/install it?

Please see on youtube:

You can see that there is a coin battery, so far as I can see it is a CR2032
3V Lithium cell.

Roland RA-800 questions #202
I thought it would be more difficult. Once I opened the unit up it was obvious where the battery was, how to remove it, how to replace it. I have a Ensoniq ESQ-m & had to replace the battery in it a while ago. No one in Ensoniq knew what it was or where it was located. I opened the unit up & after a good while I spotted the battery. It had been replaced before. There was a axial lead battery with two pieces of solder wire connecting to the circuit board. I searched around for a correct replacement it it cost around $40!!! I went to Radio Shack & bought one (axial leads) for $8. This time I wired it in. Oh, well . . .

Roland RA-800 questions #205
The first thing I ask ANY tech service guy about any issue is, 'Do you have the schematics and parts list for the device in question at hand..?'

You can save yourself a ton of time doing that! I can't tell you how much time you can waste before a tech will finally admit he doesn't know the answer because he doesn't have the documents. Particularly for equipment made before PDF service documents, it's usually a toss-up if they have anything to do with arrangers available. No respect..!

Roland RA-800 questions #220
This is a bit long and boring. I was using my RA-800 when it crashed. This means that I had to initialize it. Now I don't know what to do. Fortunately I have disks that I save many years ago. For example I have one disk that has the following:
mds - MIDI set
ups - prf
csq - chord sequencer
stl - user styles
uss - style sets
But I don't know what to do!!!! Which or all should I install? How?

I would appreciate it someone would walk me through the installation.

I forgot to mention in my previous posting that I am using a MIDI accordion.

Please keep posts about the RA800 to the one thread.

Thank you.

You don't need to start a whole new thread to continue the topic...

Roland RA-800 questions #245
Hey Diki,

Your response was certainly appreciated. I do not want to violate any of the parameters established by this group. Unfortunately your suggestion echoes some of the Roland suggestions that fail to indicate how. Please, please tell me . . .

Goodwill,
Luke

Roland RA-800 questions #246
Have you read those manuals?

Please remember, we are not affiliated with Roland, and sadly, the RA800 is such a legacy product, it may be hard to find someone that still uses one or remembers what to do.

Bottom line about restoring your setups is, if it is years since you last did a floppy backup, you've lost all your data since the last backup. And floppies aren't a very robust storage medium, so cross your fingers that the machine will still read them!
