Sysex for BK3
Actually my project is about 75% functionnal.
To build it I've used the CTRLR software design to build control panel for any midi controled hardware. You can design the layout the way you want.
You can also design your own button, knob ans sliders yourself and incorporate them in your panel. If you look at the picture I've posted I've design the slider and button myself.
To build them I've used the JKnobMan software. Both software ( ctrlr and JKnobMan ) are freeware. Take a look to them if you want to build something they're pot of gold.
As you mentioned, the owner's manual for the BK-3 does indicate that SysEx is transmitted and received, but since there is no other specific MIDI Implementation Document, this often indicates that most of the parameters are not available via SysEx. It could be that the BK-3 allows for some SysEx messages (such as SMF reset, etc.), but would not have access to the sound generation parameters.
We can ask Roland Japan about this, but if your user is out of the US, you will need to have them contact their local distributor for them to ask Roland Japan. This is because the engineering teams in Japan have asked that any requests like this are routed through the distributor for the area the request originates.
I sent a reply asking them to ask anyway, as I had most of the BK's, and friends with other models. But I suggest you try again through Roland Canada's official email tech support channel.
In the meantime, how about making a slider to control something other than EQ? Just to test whether there is any reception at all. Something global, like tuning, easy to hear if it is working. But don't forget that GS reset button if you do (or just switch the BK off and back on again to reset any tuning changes you make)..!
Like already mention I'll try other message to see if someting work.
In the mean time I continue to complete my panel with all other working functions.
The only way I found for tech support is through the Tribes forum.
Is your contact could supply an e-mail for tech support in Canada?
Let's hope they either send me one or ask Roland Japan for me. Hang in there!
I got a reply back from Roland showing an error in their MIDI implementation. Seems they got the channel sysex headers wrong...
Hope it fixes your issue.
