Style composer!? #6768
For the past couple of weeks I've logged some hours experimenting with the Style Composer. (On the BK-9, this function is called Rhythm Composer.) Has anyone else on this forum ever tried to create or extensively modify a style?

I've observed some behavior that's either not well-documented, or even different from what's described in the manual. Hopefully when I've finished I'll do a detailed write-up with what I found, if anyone is interested. In the meantime, who else has tried to use the style creation function, and got unexpected results?

Does anyone know of a wiki or any kind of write-up besides the factory reference manuals, that might be helpful for someone trying to create their own styles? Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Try a search for 'Rhythm Composer' here on the forum. I seem to remember a few posts way back about some anomalies with that section.

TBH, I don't really use it. If I need something tune specific, I tend to use an SMF or audio backing, and I'm afraid I can probably count on the thumbs on one hand the number of times I heard a user created style anywhere near as good as the ROM ones..!

It takes more skill to create a great style than a great SMF. With a sequence, you don't have to worry about how well each section transitions to each other section, whether each chord variation works with the style, whether the bassline walks correctly to all possible other chords, etc.. With a sequence, all you have to do is play top to bottom. Easy.

It would be great to hear what you are working on, and why ROM styles aren't covering that well enough. Do you do some kind of ethnic music that the ROM is short of? Or are these songstyles, designed to do one song as accurately as possible?

I look forward to reading about your testing the Style Composer.

Good suggestion, I did find one post from 2018 with the search.

If I recall, a few years ago there was some kind of discontinuity with the forum. Posts within a certain time frame were "lost," and I believe posts before that time frame were still viewable with another link. Does anyone have the link to the "old" Roland forum? Does it still work!? Thanks!
