Proper name or specification of the FC-7 8-pin DIN connector? #6731
Hello! Does anyone on this Forum know the proper name, or specification of the 8-pin male DIN connector on the end of the FC-7 multipedal?

Roland unwisely discontinued this product. Contact switches aren't rare or hard to obtain; all the magic is in the connector. If we know what specification Roland used, it would be easy enough to make a home-built FC-7. Yes, I downloaded the product manual, and the type of connector is not identified :-(

Grateful for any info this community can provide.

Thank you for trying to help. But the intent of that document is to show the pinout. It isn't an accurate depiction of the connector. For example, on the actual device, the hole for center pin #8 is not in line with pins 1 and 3.

As the text implies, Roland did not invent this connector. It conforms to a pre-existing specification. I'm hoping that someone on this forum knows what the designation is. Here's one possibility (not sure if this is the right one):

The connectors aren't cheap, so trial-and-error will get pretty expensive!
Thanks again!

The official name should be MAS 80SN DIN Plug. Hirschmann is a brand which makes them.

It's a standard 8 pin male DIN plug. A Google search brings up a load of them.

I made one for my BK-9: always worked fine.
I previously published on this forum an updated version of the document. I post it here again. Hope it helps.
Choose a DIN connector with thin metal ring: I had to file the metal plate on the BK-9 to be able to insert the connector! No problem with the BK-7m.

Sorry for the double post of the document....

Here is a picture of my homemade FC-7 and its connector: exactly like a 5 pin DIN MIDI connector, with added pins 6, 7 and 8.

Maybe you can see the difference of thickness of the ring? Please get a thin one, not in two pieces like mine, if possible.

Thank you all for posting. Willem52 provided the key information last week, with the proper name of the connector: MAS 80SN DIN Plug

I was surprised to learn that there were several 8-pin DIN connectors on the market, and they're NOT interchangeable. It was evident that the one for the FC-7 had a middle pin that was below-center. As far as I know, it's official name had not been published in any Roland manuals, nor previously on this forum.

Since we know the name of the connector, as long as they remain in production we can easily make our own FC-7s. Now we just need Roland to start making TOTL arrangers again :-O Thanks all!!

To anybody who wants to make a FC-7 themselves, I would like to add a precious advice: please compare these two pictures!
You can see here the difference of the thickness and structure of the DIN 8 pin connector and please get a ready to use cable, because soldering the 8 wires to those 8 pins is rather difficult task! If you get a cable that is long enough, you can make two FC-7 from it!
