Problem saving Favorites with effects on EA7 #6537
Maybe I'm missing something, but when I save a sound to Favorites, I first select the insert effects, such as reverb, delay, etc. Then SAVE to a Favorite location.
However this setting is somehow changed when I call up a sound, say, from an OTS or Performance. Then when I exit that sound and call up one from Favorites the effects are retained, rather than resetting to the ones I tried to save in the Favorite slot.
If there are no effects in use in the sound, then when I call up a Favorite sound, there are no effects there either.
I have read the manuals, and it SEEMS to indicate that all the insert effects I saved in the Favorite slot should be remembered.
I can't find any locks or parameters that would seem to help.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Here is my info I sent to Don.

"Don after I read your post at Roland arranger... I noticed you didn.t mention saving as a user tone after you modified the tone (effects)..
You need to save the user tone first to use it , or it only stays in the temp area."

OK! That makes sense. I never realized you had to do that. Will check it out. Leaving for a short vacation, but when I get back I'll do that for certain!
Thanks Fran.

That’s an improvement over the BK series, which could only recall the ROM MFX for a Tone (and only the default settings for the Tone) when stored as a Favorite. Such a missed opportunity...

Mind you, despite decades of pleas for it, it wasn’t until the BK series that there was any Favorites feature at all. Once arrangers had more that 128 basic sounds, it was pretty much a must have..!

There honestly were times when I used to think that the arranger division was where Roland used to send the developers too dumb to work on the workstation line!

I don't see a way to SAVE the sound to USER. There is no screen to let you save, unless you go through Edit, and it won't let me edit most of the sounds.
I would like to find a sound I like, with the effects I like, and be able to call it up when I want it.
Getting really frustrated. . .

Hmm. This is the second time I've read a credible post that the majority of tones on the E-A7 are not editable. That's very disappointing for a board that was supposed to have deeper voice editing than previous Roland arrangers. Is there any list or rule to know which tones, or how many, ARE editable?

It seems like being able to create user tones, and even assign them to styles, is important functionality. Watching this thread with interest!

I'm hoping that maybe Fran can add something more. Maybe I'll give him a phone call after while.

The EA7 is very editable..Once you understand that the edits are for the "Capital" tones and not variations.. similar to the old Sound Canvas concept.

Most of the derived from Capital (primary) tones are changes to the 4 partials (Waves, samples) and effects (including MFX).
Select a tone closely to the one you want to edit from the tone list (make sure it is a primary (editable).

I tried to post this G70 tip that could be helpful here.

Another G70 tip.

The G70 can not save edited tones or favorite tones... or does it?

The answer is YES!!.

This is a work around, although I think Roland intended users would use it.

You can edit any sound on the G70 (basic edits, not as deep as EA7) .

After editing write them as a user program. You just wrote a user tone.

Rename the user program so it describes your user tone.

Save as a user program (you do not have to save in the User Program
set list.. Save in the User program memory (limited to the size of memory source).

When naming the user tone use a prefix (Maybe a "-" to show it is a user tone).
This way you could do a search and all the "-" tone names will be shown instantly.

You could also use set list (144) if you want and save as a set list to reload
(in seconds).

Now prepare the "hold" to allow only the tone when you select a user program
This will only function when the HOLD light is on (easy activation).

So now you have edited User Tones and Favorite tones.

BTW: the edited sounds include all 6 realtime sounds (you select the part
you want to play .. 1 or all 6). Use layered or splits.

Thanks Fran, but how do you know which tones are editable? I want to take, for instance, Warm Drive guitar, and save it to Favorites and have the effects and edits I choose be called up every time.
You mentioned before that the tone must first be saved to User, and that's what I'm trying to do, but keep getting "this tone cannot be edited".

Go to Roland site and download the EA7 style/sound list;; The editable tones are earmarked.

Well almost NONE of the electric guitars can be edited. Thinking of buying the Dynamix samples and working with them.
There should be a way of calling up the sound you want with the effects you want, other than saving to a User program or OTS.
Next step is to see if the User sounds, when saved to Favorites, retain all the settings.
