Va-7 Operating system #6367
Hello,

I've just bought a second hand VA-7 which isn't working - it emits a high frequency sound and the touch pad isn't working. I've tried to reset to factory settings but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm considering re-installing the original operating system or version 2 if I can get hold of either - has anyone got a copy of either OS or can help me with the problems with my keyboard?

Thanks
Tony Walker

That was the generation of Roland arrangers I skipped (went from my trusty G1000 to the G70) so unfortunately I can't help, but I think we had some members here who used them. Perhaps they can.

But have you already tried contacting Roland in your country? It's always worth a go...

Yes, but is is a package of 27MB: too large to attach or to email in a whole.

But, you may try this one (which I found with Google search): VA76-VA7 UPD 2.0 ZIP

Hi Willem,

Thanks for pointing that out. I've seen it before but wondered if the files will work on my VA-7, these files are for the VA-76?

Cheers

Hi, Tony

I read..... you buy a va-7 with isn't working ???
its ammite a high frequent sound/noise
and the thouch screen doesn't work

What do you think ??????

a 20 year old machine ???

I have had a va-76
and these problems starts after 15 years
For the simple reason your power supply (internal) captilators are aging and dry-out make it a instable power 12v become around 18v and the 5v(data) runs up to 9v while the amp drops
One other nasty problem with the VA it's the backlicht of the touchscreen It's a TFT backlite mean high frequent Voltage that starts leaking to the ground when the backlicht worns-out . this make the high frequent sound leak to the audio (groundloop)

I bet your zip drive also will come with read/write problems.

All by all stupid to buy this VA-7 .... I am realy sorry to say!!!!

factory reset or update firmware (os) will not solve your problems

game-over

How an aging arranger works has got a lot more to do with how well it was taken care of than it’s age. There are plenty of people with functioning V/VA series arrangers. I know of people with G1000’s that the ZIP drive still works....

So pay no attention to Ronald’s rather scathing post. As long as you paid very little for the VA7, you have little to lose. And if you can coax it into life cheaply, you have yourself a bargain. Roland had a very high build quality back then, far better than today’s plastic machines. I have a sneaky feeling that a well maintained V series or G/E series arranger May outlive today’s Chinese built plastic examples in the long run.

But, that being said, keep a careful eye on how much you spend on repair... compare to used contemporary models which have still contemporary storage systems. If the repair estimate gets too high (always get an estimate!), just bail and start looking for a used BK-9 or BK-5. Maybe a G70 or E60....

But there ARE old Roland’s still working fine despite Ronald’s doom and gloom post!

And you missed the important part of asking how much he paid for it. If he paid next to nothing for it, and the problem turns out to be easy to fix, he has a bargain. Please stop insulting our members (calling their decisions stupid), and try to be a bit more positive please.
