New Roland range #5902
Recieved an Email today from Roland UK with videos showing their new range of keyboards.
They are called the Fantom series with a choice of 61,76 or88 keys.Unfortunately they are not arranger keyboards
but synthesizers. They do state they are the best keyboard they`ve ever made.

This is a good sign since most folks thought that Roland was finished with high-end arrangers and workstations alike. Hopefully, it is a sign that they will do at least a MOTL arranger (with a 7 inch touch screen) in the near future and some of the features on this new Fantom will "trickle down."

Maybe it’s the Trump trade war coming to bite us in the backside, but $3200 street for a 61 seems like a hell of a jump in price.

$3700 street for the 76... I seem to remember the previous generation Fantom close to a grand less. Am I wrong?

To be honest, I don’t think anyone in the WS using world was thinking Roland had abandoned the TOTL WS market. The Fantom and the Jupiter have been solid performers against Yamaha and Korg and no one that I read was writing them off at all.

The arranger market, OTOH shows all the signs of having been abandoned. Who knows, maybe Roland have an ace up their sleeve, but unless full scale production resumes in even the MOTL sector, let alone the TOTL PA4X/Genos sector, I honestly doubt the little EA7 is going to be able to support an entire division’s needed R&D...

Roland’s decision to move from Italy and offshore has pretty much killed the arranger division.

Prove me wrong, Roland!

Just for comparison, the list price for the FantomG 61 was US$2999. List for the new Fantom-6 is US$4,299.99

I'm only very suprised about the incridible new OS and UI on this new fantom.
It's absolute on a total new fantistic level
All those years we are complaining mostly about the lack of there OS on our instruments.

And now i'm speak-less about what the have create See the demo's and revieuws guys

If the ever will make a arranger-workstation out of this fantom..... i'm hopefull

From what I've seen of videos so far, the Fantom as a basis for an arranger would be a very poor deal, with its emphasis on contemporary and classic synth sounds, which is hardly the meat and potatoes of an arranger! No SuperNatural acoustic instrument sounds (just the Jupiter synth ones) so not even up to the level of an Integra7... No VK organ sim (but a very good piano sim), drums seem overly synth orientated, so far I haven't heard an acoustic demo that blows me away.

Don't get me wrong, for what it is designed to do, it does a great job. But just as the Montage and the Genos have little in common, or the Kronos and the PA4X, the Fantom and anything approaching even the BK-9 or a G70 are simply two totally different beasts.

Now, the Integra7, THAT would make a fantastic engine to drive an arranger..! But unless you are primarily into EDM and synth music (in which case, you wouldn't touch any arranger with a bargepole!), the Fantom lacks too much to be a decent arranger. The vast majority of an arranger's soundset are acoustic sounds, the vast majority of the Fantom's are electronic.

Just make an Integra7 arranger, Roland!

Indeed the Integra 7 engine would make a great arranger.. I am missing my Integra 7, I should not have sold it.. and now the prices are on the rise.. I am still holding out to see if Roland will release the new arranger rumored..

Rumor? Or simply more unfounded wishful thinking?

Where and from who did this come from? Do they have the slightest official contact with Roland? Roland did a damn good job of concealing the Fantom until they were good and ready, I doubt the rumor mill is going to be any more successful predicting a new arranger.

If Roland did come out with a new MOTL or TOTL arranger, they better hit it out the park... the SX900 is sucking a lot of the oxygen from the room! I am especially impressed by their first chord Sequencer allowing up to eight loops available from the touch screen (something I have been calling for for years!). In the meantime, Roland (who invented the CS) omitted it from their latest, and who knows whether a new arranger will even have one, let alone eight!

And, with the new Fantom being over $1200 more than the previous, who is willing to bet that even if they did make a new TOTL, it wouldn’t end up being Genos expensive, probably dooming it. It’s either a home run or the game is over. If they are even playing the game any more...
