Android lyric display #5794
Because the iPad Roland app Lyrics Viewer has been discontinued, I am considering getting a cheap Android tablet if I can find an app that displays MIDI lyrics from an external input...

I know there are plenty of iPad and Android apps that can display MIDI lyrics if the app itself is playing them but I don't want to have to have something else play the MIDI file into the BK (I would lose the use of Markers and the ability to use the Performance List live selection). I want to play the MIDI file into the tablet via USB (like the iPad app did) and simply have the app display them.

Does anyone know of an Android app that can do this? Or even an iPad one if I have somehow missed one despite a lot of searching..!

I have no experience in Android Lyrics players, but I saw an article:
"6 Best Lyrics Apps for Android". Perhaps there's something there.

There is also a free and commercial version of "Lyric Pad":

I appreciate the help, but all the above merely play the files them selves or recognize commercially released MP3’s.

However, I am not playing the actual recording (which is how their databases know which songs they are), I make my own tracks and embed the lyrics in them with often different structures to the original, so looking up the original lyrics rarely works. Plus, most of these apps are audio only, whereas I need an app that does mp3 lyrics AND MIDI...

The discontinued Roland Lyrics app was able to display lyrics embedded in both SMF’s and MP3’s, while the BK series arranger was actually playing the file, hence it was somehow reading some kind of transmitted information over the USB buss. So far, every app I have looked at has to play the file itself to be able to display the lyrics (or hear the official commercial file and look up the lyrics specific to that version).

The more I look into this, the more it looks like what a unique and irreplaceable app Lyrics Viewer was...

I wonder if it works with the EA7? Has anyone who got Lyrics Viewer for the BK series tried it connected to an EA7? (Fran?)

I don't have Lyrics Viewer, but would like to try it on my EA7. I do have a couple of Android devices.

The problem is, it was iOS only (iPad only, didn't work on iPhone) and no longer available. Due to Apple's DRM, once it isn't available at the store, you can't buy it, get given it (no way to transfer an app from one account to another) or find it in any way. I have a friend that has it, never uses it, it works with the latest OS (as does the BK-9 Editor, despite being unsupported post iOS 9), and it is driving me crazy I can't get it for my recently bought (Xmas '18) iPad..!

If you have a friend with it on his iPad, I'd be fascinated to know if it works with an EA7. It worked on all the BK's, and was the only way short of a TV connected to the video outs to display lyrics on the BK-7m.

I wish there was a way to get a mass mailing to Roland asking for its reintroduction to the Apple Store. Because it reads both MIDI lyrics and MP3 lyrics, it's a very unique product. So far, short of having my iPad take over all the sequencer and MP3 player duties (and thus lose Marker ability for SMF's and integrated tempo and key adjustment for MP3's) it is the ONLY way to do lyrics while still having your BK do the SMF/MP3...
