BK-7m Software , Templates , Layouts , Please #5724
Would some kind BK-7m user be good enough to share software that they have made for
their BK-7m , or Template/Layouts for e.g. MidiDesigner , Lemur , Ctrlr , TouchOsc , MidiQuest.
Or to point me to a download of such items(I already have BK-7m_Editor and BK-7m Music Assistant
and all the Roland iOS Apps)
Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi,

I guess this is aimed at me because I said in another thread that I had created software which worked to control my BK7m when Gesini GERD would not connect. You did ask me to share the software in that thread - but I have not had time to deal with the message.

But also you asked me the same question about sharing the same program a couple of months ago and I did provide an answer then. So the program I wrote does do the job to some degree in that it works as expected - but it is NOT usable by others (and was never intended to be) and does not have the bells and whistles that are really needed. This is the reason I was looking at GERD - you never reinvent the wheel with software development as its never cost effective (i.e. if a program exists then just buy it). So as I said then - sorry - no, my program is not shareable.

If you already have the IOS app - then you already have much of what my program does anyway - I just wanted a PC version as that is how I work - and, anyway, it was intended as a step to bigger things (which have now been abandoned).

My suggestion is to try Gesini GERD - it may work perfectly for you and it is not expensive as software goes. As I said before - if I could have got it to work then I would have willingly purchased it.

The other possible route is do a search for 'Peter Jazz BK7m edito'r. He wrote a free program a few years ago which used to be downlaodable - although the link no longer works. But you could try contacting him an ask if he will let ou have a copy.

Hi, I don't write programs, but I use several pieces of Software to make my life easier when using the BK7m. Here is what I use, and the sources, as well ass the approximate prices:

BKPartner: iOS app - free itunes.apple.com/us/app/bk-partner/id591061937?mt=8
If you are tired of the cursor wheel, this is a good alternative to find quickly sounds, styles, performances. Most important for me. Instead of using the cursor wheel you can use the iPad keyboard. I use an old 3rd gen iPad.

Peter Jazz BK7m Editor: PC program - free. peterjazz.com/blog/?p=24
This is a performance list editor. You load one performance list and edit the content. Mainly descriptions of the titles, but also some other parameters. Send him and email and he shares the program for free.

BK7m Performance Editor: PC Program: EUR 15 www.gfssoft.de/english.html
A German programmer had developed this access based program a couple of years back. The user interface is antique and it is based on an access 2000 runtime. Regardless, it is a good program and easy to use. Not only can you manipulate one performance list, you can load all your performances into the database and start copying them to create new ones. This is the program I used the most.

StyleWorks XT - Roland: PC Program EUR 199 (there was once an offer for EUR 99 www.emc-musicsoftware.com/epages/6251196...ucts/stwxt_0001-0003
Another German company. I use this software mainly to convert other styles to the Roland Format and they use the BK7m makeup tools to polish them up. Unless you want to really dig deep into this or have some extra funds to spend probably low on the priority list.

Gesini Gerd: PC Program price vary based on deportment from EUR 88 to EUR119 gesini.com/gerd-product.htm
I have not used that program as I don't have a need for it. It seems some people have issues getting it to work on their machine.

I hope that helps

Perhaps eallan would specify what he needs to do that his current crop of software doesn't already?

It seems he has already got most needs covered. What is he trying to do?

Thank you all for your replies.
I am mainly looking for a more convenient way to control the Bk-7m using a Touch screen device(iPad or Android)
in order to change Style Voices , FX , Volumes etc without scrolling endlessly!

Are you trying to control these in the middle of a song? If not, perhaps it is time to leverage the 999 size Performance List, and simply create sub-Performances with the changes you need programmed in already?

A lot of arranger players try to run these modern machines like an old school arranger, which had few controls to adjust during a song, and called up everything on the fly... Styles, sounds, effects, etc.. The trouble is nowadays, modern arrangers have far too many styles, sounds, effects and features to be able to practically call them all up on the fly. This is where creating Performances in advance saves you a ton of trouble trying to access stuff.

But if you simply want to speed up creating the Performances in the first place, I think that GERD (for all the trouble some people seem to have contacting the writer of the program) seems to be the most comprehensive solution. It's a shame Roland never ported the BK-9 Editor iPad program to other BK models (Lord knows, the BK-7m needed it more than most!) but it is what it is...
