Error "Enter a valid name" while restoring a backup in Roland E-A7 #5748
Is this a file you received from someone else, or is this a file you created yourself?

If it's from someone else, you might need to contact them and ask for another copy in case it got corrupted in transit. There's also the issue of copy protection if it uses third party sample sets which may need a valid key or SN# to load.

As I said, without an E-A7, I can't do anything to this file to check it in any way. But I'm guessing that you aren't trying to load the .rar, of course! You have done backups before... I expect you have checked to make sure the file structure and naming conventions are the same for this backup compared to other backups you have created?

Bottom line, did you lose a ton of work? If not, maybe try loading the resources again and try another backup. See if you get the same issues. If so, maybe it comes down to a corrupted sample set or something like that...

I think there lies your problem...

If your own backups work fine but the one you got from him doesn't, the issue is far more likely to be his (corrupt samples, corrupt transmission, corrupt compression etc.). If you finally contact him, perhaps suggest he use a different program to .zip or .rar the file.

And also ask him to load the file in his own E-A7 to see whether he gets a problem with it, too.

You are perhaps seeing the problem in calling something a 'bug' long before you have any evidence it actually is... In all fairness to Roland, you should have contacted the originator of the file and sorted whether the file had issues at his end before you tried to contact any Roland tech support (in any region!) with a claim that something is wrong with their OS.

When I contacted him (the originator) 1 month ago he once replied that this backup file is ready to go and smoothly run on OS 2.01. So I took this thread on. I am still eager to solve this mystery.
Thanks Diki

I would suggest you get him to send you another copy of the file, preferably compressed (zip, rar) using a different program. Did he specify how you should decompress what he sent you (specific program, etc.)?

There are often problems with large file corruption and transmission if the compression utility does not have error checking.

The very fact that he said it worked fine in his E-A7 automatically negates the possibility of it being a bug. But the fact that he won't respond to you is worrying. I hope you haven't been scammed...

Here is the backup file link which is compressed in rar format. Please take a look if someone keeps Roland E-A7.

Did you ever try to contact Roland Vietnam?

Personally, I am a little wary of trying to load data into a keyboard that has already proved problematic in another. At this point in time, with whoever sent it to you being unresponsive, there is reason for concern about the data. Until you have reestablished contact with whoever sent you the data, it is fair to assume there may be some risk involved with it.

Your primary need is to contact whoever sold you this, followed by contacting Roland Vietnam.

Asking one of our members here to assume the risk of loading unverified data is potentially dangerous. As I said, I hope you haven’t been scammed, but at this point you need to reestablish communication with whoever sent it to you in the first place.

If anyone does download the above file, I HIGHLY recommend they do a DOUBLE backup (to different sticks) of their current data, and do a full backup of all Global settings, just in case you have to do a full factory reset.
