G-70 db Data Base Manager #5582
I have been a fan of the Roland arranger series since the first RA’s and owned almost everyone since their introduction. I currently have a G-70. As most other users, I have accumulated many styles, music assistant set-ups, and midi files.
Up through the VA-76, I had used the computer Roland data base program RDBM (Roland Data Base Manager Program) to edit the files with the ease of a computer keyboard and screen rather than the limited internal keyboard editor. Now, with windows10 neither the old RBDM or the newer G-70db Database Manager works. The RDBM will load but is not functional and G-70db will not even load. I get a message ‘Windows cannot find ‘javaw’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.’
I leave messages at Roland Product Support 323-890-3740 but never get a return call.
Is there any simple solution to the problem or is it time to sell the G-70 and update to what??
I appreciate any response or help that I can get.

What is so urgent that you need data base manager? What do you need to do?

Check lout GNMIDI software.. With this software and the OS of the G70, there is not much lacking at all..

Rather than change the arranger, why not consider simply getting an older Windows computer that can run the programs you need? I am sure something old enough to run those 15+ year old programs can be had for little more than $100!

Alternatively, if you have simply updated your current computer to Win10 and it no longer runs the old program, do a fresh install of WinXP (or whatever the old program ran on) on a partition on an external drive, and install the legacy programs you are familiar with and keep on truckin'! Just boot into the external legacy OS when you need it...

Tomb,

For me the Roland G-70 Database Manager tool works for my Roland E-80 on Windows 10.

Did you try to install it with administrator rights already?
Otherwise try to change the compatibility mode to Windows 7 or so when installing.
Did you install the needed Java Runtime Environment?

Another option is to use a portable version.
