BK7m (or other BK) Sonar INS file for styles #5563
Hi eallen,

Inside Gig Performer I use the ReaControlMidi VST plugin. This is part of the DAW called REAPER - but, very kindly, is available free as part of a separate set of plugins made availble for non-REAPER users [it is only availble for Windows]. It is very stable and works reliably - the only problem is that Gig Performer is not a DAW and so there are issues about re-triggering the output of the midi PC codes when you change to a new rackspace. This, however, is fixed by a piece of Gig Performer scripting to make the triggering happen on rackspace change (I can supply the script).

With regard to using the BK7m with Gig Performer - there is actually nothing to share. My use of GP with the BK7m is very early days and I am just looking to see how far I can use the two together. It may never get as far as a shareable solution. But if you understand GP - then its not a huge deal to make it work with the BK7m codes.

Are you a GP user?

Hi Barry ,
Going to try Gig Performer very soon - having an awful job selecting BK7m voices etc , esp as the rotary dial is needing replaced.
Your script and any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi eallen,

If you want a really good VST host for live use - then I think Gig Performer is fantastic and you are unlikey (in my humble opinion) to find better. Its a modern design, very logical and extremely robust (the authors actually tour in bands and they use it themselves) and works on Mac and PC.

However, if you are just buying it to use specifically with the BK7m then I am not convinced its a great match. Just to clarrify - I was asked (above) why I needed a certain INS file and I gave an explanation - I wasn't pushing a solution. The fact that I am trying to get GP to work with the BK7m is just a sign of my sad geekyness - but it is not for everyone. I have a programming/IT background, know a lot about midi and VSTs and enjoy technical challenges of this type - but I wouldn't recommend this as a way forward unless you really know what you are doing. Indeed it might not even ultimately do what you (or even I) want.

If all you are doing is trying to find a workaround for a faulty jog wheel then I would frankly get it repaired or buy another BK7m on ebay (I havn't looked but they cannot be that expensive these days). But, at the very least, before you buy - download the free 14 day working demo of GP and see if it is remotely practical for what you want to do in connection to the BK7m.
