Can you Alphabetize Song Performances on BK9? #1105
I have so many songs saved in performances...I was wondering if there is a way to you Alphabetize Song Performances
on BK9 somehow on the keyboard or on your PC? This would surly make it much easier to search for song titles, etc during live play, etc?....
any help appreciated.

Can you Alphabetize Song Performances on BK9? #1107
I'm not sure about PC's, there were a few BK editing programs that allowed you to edit Performances and Performance Lists (Google GESINI) but I'm not sure if they are still in business.

There's nothing for Mac that I know of, but Roland made a few iPad programs (BK-9 Editor, I think that's discontinued, and BK Partner, which is still on the App Store) that allowed you to reorder a Performance List. Not sure if it did automatic alphabetization, but it allowed easy drag and drop, so a little easier than using the BK-9 to reorder the list.

But, you DID know that you can do it in the BK-9? Performance List>Quick Menu>Move Performance>Save Performance List (don't forget that last step!).

I know it's a PITA to do it the first time if you already have a few hundred entries, but once you do it, any new entries you create can quickly be 'Moved' to its correct location. That's how I did it, anyway!

But... There's one thing you need to be careful of. :woohoo: If you are using external gear to select your Performances (quite a few people use iPad/tablet/PC programs to select a Performance List entry so they can display sheet music or lyrics for style play), once you Link a sheet music or lyric display by using a MIDI code to call up the Performance, you can no longer move ANY of the Performances around.

Essentially, the MIDI PC code from the tablet is calling up a 'slot' in the Performance List, NOT the actual Performance (by name), so once you set this in the program (like OnSong, etc.), that Performance must remain where the program thinks it is. Or you will get wrong songs called up. Not a big deal if you don't use such things, but it is if you do!

I think the first time I alphabetized my List I had a hundred or so entries. Took me a couple of hours. But now I have several hundred and they are all in the correct order because I move them there as soon as I create them. So, even if you don't get a program that can do this, it isn't too hard to do! Diki thank you for the great explanation. That is exactly what I needed to know. In my case moving performances ON The KB itself makes more sense. It is also explained thoroughly on Pg:61 in the manual also. As you said once the initial sorting is done with the performances I already have which is about 25 I can then sort all future songs in the alphabetical order needed and so on.

25 entries won't take long!

Don't forget as well, there's a Music Assistant List with 1000 entries already done. If you like any of them, simply load the Performance, change to your alphabetized Performance List (don't select a Performance) and then do a Write. Voilá! Move it to the correct place, and you have a quick way to add many new tunes. You can also edit them to your taste if close but not perfect.

There's also a case to be made for copying the entire MA List... The manual shows how to select multiple Performances (it's a PITA for a List that long, but doable, or break it down into 100 entry blocks) and creating a new one (call it 'My MA List' or whatever). These will then be editable, so you can tweak the entire MA List if you like (the MA List is ROM, so can't be stored to).
