Music Assistant (updated) doesn't work (G-70)
I've bought a second hand Roland G-70 V3.
After investigating the keyboard, I discovered the internal Music Arranger.
When I load the internal memory, I see all the songs in it, from A to Z, but cannot open any song.
If I understand the manual correctly, these are pre-registrated songstyles, standard in the keyboard.
I've already did a factory reset, but I didn't helped.
Someone here who can help me out?
Appreciate your help.
Forgive me, it's been a long time since I used my G70...
Basically, you have to load the factory User Program Set (UPS) before you can use the Music Assistant (IIRC). Those aren't 'songs' (SMF's), those are setups so you can play songs using the ROM styles.
Press the DISK & MEDIA button
Press LOAD (top RH corner)
Press USER PROGRAM SET
Select INTERNAL MEMORY
There should be a UPS called FACTORY SET... (maybe 'FACTORY SET v2', I'm not sure how the original owner updated everything).
Select FACTORY SET (if v2 version there, select that)
This loads in the UPG's that the MA links to.
Make sure you have saved your current UPS first (read manual for that) so you don't lose it...
Any current G70/E80 users care to check whether this is good advice?
After that, use the SET LIST button to select an entry of the loaded user performance set.
Please also download and look at the information already collected fir this Arranger:
and for the v3 O.S. files:
and for the manuals and other info:
I've tried, but without luck unfortunately. When I go to "Disk & Media" and select "Load" followed with "user program set", the internal memory gives nothing. No Factory Reset to be found. It's blank. Very strange situation.
At this point, can you tell us whether there is any User Data in the G70 you want to keep? Have you already worked on some UPG's, SMF's, made a UPS, anything at all? If not, it might be worth simply loading the original V3 factory data and starting fresh.
If you have already done some work, you need to read up on how to back it all up to a computer, then load in a fresh factory data set, and then add your new work back in to that.
Be aware, the factory data alone uses up a fair amount of the Internal data, if you have hundreds of SMF's and tons of styles you want to add, you might also read up on how to use a PCMCIA Card in your G70 for ALL your own data, as this makes backing up stuff easier if not scattered between the Internal and External memory.
Be aware, a factory reset doesn't reload the ROM styles or UPG's... (iirc). It simply resets the OS to default values. It honestly doesn't sound like there is anything wrong that needs a reset. Simply that whoever you purchased the G70 from may have wiped the Internal data of any work of his, and took out the factory UPS's too.
As long as you haven't already done a ton of work on the G70, I would follow the instructions for reloading the original factory data, and start from a fresh state.
That was my idea too. I've just bought this last weekend and till now, I didn't "worked" with it. So it would be no problem to begin from zero.
Now, I'm sorry I'm asking "stupid" questions. For me the Roland is totally not familiar. I only worked with GEM (General Music) and Yamaha. And basically I play the accordeon. I always wanted a "vintage" Roland keyboard and now I had the oppurtunity to buy one.
So, stupid question number 1. How do I install the original V3 software data? Do I need to connect the keyboard directly to my laptop? Or does it go via the PCMCIA Card or floppy disk?
Because it's of the market, Roland doesn't support this anymore.
I don't know where I could find the original software.
In the previous post from "Willems52", I saw some links which refer to G70-V_FactoryData.
This could be the one I need?
Thanks a lot already.
Please, can you at least first read the instructions, read the manual, and THEN if anything confuses you, ask us..?
We are only too happy to help, but it would be nice if you did the basic reading first.
