Just a warning if you have the Roland Bk9, I was performing a song and went to do a piano solo and it was completely out of tune.
When I got home it was absolutely fine, which indicates the problem was possibly the electrics at the venue..

Double check your pitch bend lever... I am on my third (and have a spare!). If you play in dirty or corrosive environments (I play on Gulf Coast beaches all summer long), you may be experiencing a worn out pitch lever.

You didn't mention if you corrected the problem by power cycling the keyboard (turn off and on) fixed it, or whether all the other sounds were out of tune (or whether other Parts were out of tune, too).

Bad power may indeed be the culprit, but if it repeats, next time check whether other Parts (LWR, MBS etc.) are also out of tune. You may just have a bad pitch lever....

I have the same problem, never knowing when it is going to happen. The last occassion, I took the EV5 plug out from the back of BK9, this corrected the problem immediately. since then I have had the pedal checked over, It is OK,No wireing problems or dry joints.
PS My BK9 is numbered 0000013. Made in Italy.????????

You both need to say if the tuning was off by MUCH, or just enough to be out of tune with other instruments... Or was just the active Part out of tune with the style or sequences you were playing with..?

There's not enough info here to track down the problem.

But for me, other than a worn out bender, I have NEVER had the BK-9 go out of tune (and that was only on the keyboard Parts that had the bender active). Certainly not from the EV-5 (I use one). TBH, I can't even see how the EV-5 could affect pitch. Being able to do bends with the pedal is one of the things that only OTHER arrangers can do. There isn't a single pitch parameter you can map to the EV-5, sadly! So how that would have messed up your pitch is beyond me..!

There is one other thing to check... Do both of you have your BK connected to other gear (another keyboard, a computer, etc.)? There is always the possibility that the other gear was sending a pitch bend command and the 'return to zero' bytes didn't get transmitted. Or some other MIDI/USB issue.

Has the BK ever gone out of tune while not connected to ANYTHING?

As I said earlier, I have NEVER had the entire BK go out of tune, only Keyboard Parts with an active Pitch Bend lever (Parts that had the lever disabled were unaffected), and that only while the lever is worn out. Put in a new lever, all is fixed.

As Wallis originally said, this MAY trace down to just a lousy house power where you were playing (under voltage or noisy spikes might weird out the BK). I would suggest putting the BK power supply on an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and see if it ever happens again. It certainly isn't a widely reported issue, I think you guys are the first to ever mention this...

It’s definitely due to the electrics at the venue as the night before the other entertainer also had a problem with equipment.
And I performed with it last night and there was not tuning issue at all.
The out of tune was not on the backing track but the keyboard instrument part.

OK...

Was the backing track an MP3/WAV, or a style or SMF?

Yes, a brownout or voltage spike might make the instrument lose some pitch information if you were using it when the spike happened. I still don't see how it could alter pitch if the bender wasn't in use, but weirder things HAVE happened!

I'd say take along a small UPS if the gig is known to be iffy house power. Or at the very least, a power strip with a spike protection in it.

At least the good news is, compared to some other brands, the boot-up time of a BK is short enough it won't interrupt a gig much!
