I'm trying to upgrade my BK-7M from v.105 to v.107. In between, I need v.106.

I'm having difficulty locating a source that has update v.106.

Peter

Have you try to update to v1.06 ?
Does it work well ?
I remember an update publication by Roland on v1.06 and the file was bigger than 15M ... So I have a doubt ...
As I remember there were sounds added but I don't remember if it was in version 1.05...
Does this update show this screen (see below) before the success screen

Have you update then to version 1.07 ?

Hi Marko,

I followed the instructions that Roland rolled out: "BK-7M System Update Version 1.06". It's not difficult.

I have not any success in updating from 1.05 to 1.06. The screen on the BK-7M does not show "Prog Update". All I see on the frozen screen is a couple words that only another BK-7M would understand. Ditto when I tried to update from 1.05 to 1.07.

I'm puzzled!

Try the Legacy Forum... My memory is hazy, but I seem to recall something about some update hangups going from v1.05 to v1.06, and I am not sure if Roland addressed this with an 'updated' update (did you get the update from the Roland official site, or off a user website?) or how it was resolved...

Was the USB stick you loaded the update from formatted in the BK-7m? If not, do that (after backing up the current data), put it back in the computer and put the update data AT THE ROOT LEVEL, and see if that works.

Some BK-7M have the same problem ... Impossible to update to v1.06 !.
The trick : I resolve the problem updating with the same version v1.05 !!!
So you have to try to update with v.1.05, download here
Then when it is finished, you can update for the next version..
Some remarks:
1°) unzip the file
2°) copy all the files in the root of your USB key
3°) process the update ...

Hi Marko,

Your tip worked! I used update 1.05 on 1.05 and saw the nicest word the BK-7M gave me: "SUCCESS"!

I'll try to update 1.06 tomorrow.

Thanks!

Now I have been thinking about it, I remember a hung update to a BK I was working on... But I'm still hazy about which it was.

But I DO remember that the issue went away once I formatted my stick in the BK rather than using the formatting it already had. I understand that you have a somewhat different issue (skipping an update generation), but my advice of making sure that the stick your update is on was formatted in the BK still applies.

I remember a lot of people has been stuck trying to update a version after the BK-7M cames from Roland factory.with new version 1.05 ....
it's not a problem of USB stick or format ... It's a problem coming from Roland !
I was dissapointed and angry of Roland attitude erasing intermediate update of for BK-7M on Roland web site ! :(

I also had a hard time doing these updates on my former BK-7m. You have to make sure the files in the appropriate folder are copied to the root of a BK formatted usb key, without the folder. Also, the v1.05 in the BK seems often defective, and as said earlier on this topic, it has to be done again to be able to do following updates. The corrected v1.05 comes bundled with the v1.07 from Roland site. I did not do the v1.06 because there was none on Roland site so I assumed it was unnecessary... The BK did not ask for a v1.06 to proceed with the v1.07. Is it really bad? The BK worked fine, by itself and with IPad apps.

The corrected v1.05 comes bundled with the v1.07 from Roland site.

At the beginning when the v1.07 was published, the download file have the same size on all Roland site : 13 Mbytes..

Now, on Roland Us Web site and roland.com : the size of the update (v.1.0.7) file is about 88 Mbytes because the version 1.05 is inside. So you are right.. In this case, no problem to jump version 1.05 to v1.07.

I'm not agree on Roland Europe site
On Roland Europe Web site you can find two files to download : update file v1.06 (74Mbytes) and update file v1.07 (13 Mbytes)
The version 1.06 on Roland Europe is an update of the sound (coming from v1.05) and operating system. It is the reason why the size of v1.06 file is big.
If you download on Roland Eu site you have to download the two updates (v1.06 and v 1.07) and update at first v1.06 before the v1.07..

We need to be VERY careful to make sure that we understand which BK each update is for... Obviously, they are not the same!

v1.06 for BK-7m is NOT the same update as v1.06 for BK-5, etc., etc..

So please make sure you identify each file in each post with the model it is for, in case some of our less technical members get confused, and try to apply the wrong one :woohoo:

Update takes on BK-7M about 10 minuts.
In fact it depends of the version you can update..
By example Version 1.6 take more time because you find new sounds (2 drums kit added).

Did your upgrade hang?

Did you read the advice earlier in this thread to do the update from a stick freshly formatted in the BK?

Please don't start another thread.

Brother Can You spare an update v.106 for a BK-7M? 21 Dec 2015 23:25 #3359

Thank-you Marko.
We are having difficulty updating from the 1.05 to the 1.07. We formatted the USB using the Roland, we unzipped the files and put them individually on the USB stick, but the BK-7m just didn't respond. We waited 30min and figured something must be wrong. We weren't even sure how to safely turn it off and eventually had to unplug it.

At this point, we're unsure if we should update starting with redoing the 1.05 (even though it's already there, it may have a bug as we saw in an earlier comment). Then I guess we should go to 1.06, then 1.07. Is this what you recommend?

yes, the upgrade hang, it sat on "upgrade mode:" for 30minutes. Yes, we read all earlier emails and did the update from USB stick freshly formatted in the BK.

And why 1.06? v1.07 is the latest, isn't it?

roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=BK-7M&id=62926772

Please note that the update requires v1.05 already installed, or you'll need to update to v1.05 FIRST, then update to v1.07...

EDIT... just saw your comments. Try a fresh download of v1.07, try again. I doubt 1.05 is wrong if the BK is working. That URL in my last post is the download that worked for me. Just have patience. The update takes a while...

TBH, I cannot remember how long it took. I did it nearly three years ago! But basically, if it takes much longer than this, you may have an issue.

Brother Can You spare an update v.106 for a BK-7M? 22 Dec 2015 01:12 #3370

This is getting somewhat frustrating. After a few attempts at updating using both the 10.7, then the 1.05 versions (as per earlier comment thinking there may be a bug in our current 105), we are now at the following:

We:
1. freshly formatted the USB stick with the Roland BK-7m
2. we re-downloaded the update file 1.07 (again) from the above link provided by Diki onto the computer
3. we transferred each file separately, 5 total, from the folder into the root of the USB (which is E:) (as recommended in earlier comment, NOT to transfer the 1.07 folder itself but each individual file onto the freshly formatted USB)
4. we did a factory re-set on the BK-7m, which currently has the 1.05 version, just to be safe
5. we powered off the BK
6. we inserted the USB stick
7.. holding down the "write" button, we powered on the BK
8. on the screen the following appeared "update Mode: "
9. we are still waiting for update to finish. It has been over 10minutes. Are we to wait 20min, 30min, 1 hour?

Or should we try the 1.06? We did not try it yet, although we have the file from earlier comments.

Additionally, we are observing NO ACTIVITY on the BK screen, it continues to read "Update Mode: ", as well, there appears to be no activity from the USB stick light (usually it blinks, but it just a solid color........)

it has now been over 25minutes.....it still is hung up on "Update Mode: "

Should we bother trying to see if the BK accepts the 1.06 file, or just return the unit...........?????

Let me add some precisions to my previous comment on this thread.

First, please forget about any version 1.06 for the BK-7m. It is somehow included in the process of doing v1.05 and v1.07.

I had the same issues when I tried to perform v1.07 update ( display saying "updating" and just adding dots forever...)

Don't trust the v1.05 currently on your BK-7m. Redo it with the one you fresly downloaded.

After you format the USB key on the BK-7m, erase the 4 empty folders even if they don't interfere with the process of updating, you don't need them now. Anyway, at the end, when you are done with updates, you may want to re-format that key.

Copy the 6 files from the v1.05 folder ( without the folder! ) to the root of the USB stick and perform the update as described in your post. The update takes a few minutes, not many, definitely not hours!

After the BK displays "success!", erase the v1.05 files from the stick and copy the 5 files of v1.07 on it and perform the update.

That's what I did two years ago. It WORKED. One update at a time. No folders. And please, everybody, ERASE-DELETE-FORGET that v1.06 version for BK-7m from your minds! :woohoo:  :silly:

Well, looks like we may have an issue, just FYI for everyone. We did as Rolyvon, above, suggested, went back to file 1.05, repeating the entire update process from the beginning. But the BK hung suspended on "Update Mode: ". It's been over 20 minutes already, and as all of you have indicated, it shouldn't be taking that long.

Thanks for the help though, we really appreciated it.

Sucks we have to go through the return process..........

Sorry for you. You may try with another USB stick, just in case... BK-9´s are very sensitive to that, maybe your BK-7m is too...?

V1.07 is mainly about using Roland apps on an Ipad with the BK. If you don't, no big deal. V1.05 works fine otherwise.

We'll purchase a new USB tomorrow and make a final attemp. However, it's good to know the V1.07 is mainly about iPad apps -We use PC so maybe we won't necessarily need the V1.07. - Thank-you for that.

Aré there any other limitations you can foresee should we decide to keep it and "make do" with V1.05 "forever "???

I just looked at the v1.07 update on the Roland site. Under " version history" you can read that it's only about Ipad connectivity, so no big deal for you? Good! Then the v1.05 is the same as v1.07 in you case.

The BK-7m is full of amazing features. Its main problem is the small display, but if you pilot its functions through MIDI, it's not an issue fot you. Every arranger has good and bad sides. You need to be patient and to experiment. There is lots on info about it on this site and on other ones, tutorials on Youtube, etc. You enter BK-7m on any web browser and get more info than you can use, since that module has been around for a while now. And do a good use of the instruction manual and other documents downloadable from Roland. Have fun!
BK-9 + home-made FC-7 for versatility, FP-80 for piano sounds and simplicity.

Batigallitos,

I 've take the lead of different updates on BK-7M ...
It seems you have the 1.05 version on your BK-7M

A Test if your USB key is compatible with your BK-7M
1- You have to format the key with the BK-7M ...
2 - You test your USB KEY on BK-7M, record with "audio rec" button.
If your record file is ok and you can read your key on BK-7M so your USB key can be use with BK-7M

B- If your process update doesn't work ...

If update doesn't work well, the trick is to update AT first with the same version !!!
Why ! I don't know why but it seems that some BK-7M series have a "lock" on version installed. and the update process can stop. Remember that to update the BK-7M, your USB key must be inserted before switch on .
Your files update must be in the root of your USB key..
If you don't have an update file version 1.05, tell me..
After this process you can do the other updates....

Brother Can You spare an update v.106 for a BK-7M? 23 Dec 2015 00:32 #3386

alright, thank-you everyone. Here's the final update of our "BK-7m won't accept a V1.05 or V1.07 update"

We appreciate the tip about testing USB compatibility. The USB did record & playback, so it's definitely compatible.

However, our BK-7m does not want to be updated. Yes, we have V1.05. Yes, we went back to first update with the V1.05. We made sure the USB was freshly formatted again, as well, we hit factory reset again on the BK. We put each of the V1.05 files separately (not in the folder) on the Root of the USB. The BK was powered off, we inserted the USB, and then while holding down the "Write" button we powered ON the BK. We let it hang over 30min. It did nothing except the screen stayed on "Update MOde: " the entire time. It's locked and it's locked down good.

However, everything else seems to be working at this point - although we are very inexperienced, so we're trying to test as many functions as we can right now before we make a decision to keep it or return it.

Appreciate EVERYONE's input - thanks so much!

one question can you tell me why the pc is not communicating with the arranger. The problem here is that we want to hear the music coming from the pc mp3 files

This seems a somewhat different issue, but perhaps it might point to a problem you have that might affect the upgrade...

What exactly are you trying to do here? How have you got the PC and the BK hooked up..?

The BK will play MP3's ONLY on attached USB storage. It cannot read the PC's HD's and play MP3's from those. It is also NOT a USB audio device (you can't use the BK to play the computer's sounds or use the BK as an A/D converter for the computer's audio programs).

If you want to hear MP3's that are in your PC, you will have to transfer them to the 'My Recordings' folder on a formatted USB stick ion the PC, then put the stick in the BK...

All updates are on a zip file.
I know some problem using zip files ...

So I suggest to you to try another unzipping file by example 7 zip (free on 7 ZIP download )
I think that your unzipping files are not OK.
On update 1.05 you can see theses files

Try it please. putting these files on a root USB key.
